You look fantastic Amanda. I'm glad things are going well apart from the sickness. I can't believe how quickly the weeks are passing - even though it probably won't feel like that to you. Take care.

23rd June- a special day!

Today I heard our baby's heartbeat for the very first time! It was so so special and even though the midwife didn't listen for too long it was 155 BPM which is fast! The old myth that it is fast for a girl and slower for a boy is still undecided but I have so many friends with so many children and some of them believe this to be true!

My check went well and I preferred this midwife to the initial one I met. She was very kind and has assured me I am welcome to ring or visit any time as she knows I must be pretty worried and it is a high risk pregnancy. She said all the usual checks are fine (urine and BP) and the size was 'very bonny'! LOL

It was soooooo hot today and i came home and immediately went into town with Marie and the two younger boys as the older boys so wanted to watch England play! It was as quite as a morgue out- everyone was watching the football whilst we went to the garden centre! LOL I bought herbs, more salad to plant, more strawberry plants (Marie is fascinated by them and how they spread we have 6 already!) and an oriental lily plant for my Mam's birthday! Marie did all the carrying and packing in the car for me.

I am definitely feeling little flutterings and gentle movements now, it is so very special and lovely. The midwife did say I would feel alot more stretching (i find I pull my muscles in my tummy very quickly and it hurts!) as it is probably form the emg section scar.

Tomorrow I will take a couple more photos and ask Ben to put them up!

Love always,

Amanda

24th June- Nativity of St John the Baptist!

Today is a 'name day' in our family as Malachy's second name is John for John the Baptist so I always relax on the lessons (ie I am very slack!LOL)...well, for him anyway! He did do his maths because it involved measuring various things with a metre stick which was intriguing to him and then measuring himself with a tape measure! I was quite relieved his estimates weren't too off point.....They then made some nice drawings and paintings of St John and the older ones summarised his story and did all their lessons..Patrick's little booklet was going well, ie he had written three words, and then he became distracted and off he went to make a ship with lego which really is spectacular. He did read a book I have made for him about Tig the pig so at least he managed some 'work'.

Anyway, I'm afraid my ''boasting' to Mark last night about how well and less sick I felt has back fired on me as I have been sick all day! It's odd as there is no obvious factor or rhythm to the sickness I just woke up with hay fever (sin't it appalling?!) and felt sick all day and brought my lunch up which was most annoying as I really enjoyed what I ate! LOL

Mark is out tonight at band practice and then a 40th birthday dinner- so I am slightly pensive although Ben is home from cadets and doesn't go to sleep until about 11pm..he is hoping to begin a band! and he's been asked to attend a music festival at a beautiful historic house called Waddesdon Manor on Sunday afternoon as a cadet.

I made the elderflower presse from loads of elderflowers in our garden today- it needs one week in the fridge and hopefully will help with inflammation and hay fever..and taste delicious....

Love,

Amanda'

I am semi-surviving in this intense heat, well, better than poor Mark!

The flutterings and gentle kicks are still there and frequent- the baby is approx 7inches long now and about 6-7oz heavy. There are times when I feel real flutters- almost like wriggles. It is so sweet and amazing! The children have all had a feel and their faces light up in happiness.

The sickness has calmed down to once a day and I feel very sick in the evenings and afternoons especially if I've been out.

I had a lovely surprise today- Mark was told yesterday he had to go to Cambridge and help with a big conference and stay there tonight. As you know I hate him being away, as does he, especially such short notice. He rang today at 7pm to say he was back at the office and coming home! What a surprise!
(Although he is now watching one of his films, scary, bloody and sad......my pregnancy-induced hormones cannot bear to glance at the screen.

Tomorrow we have my 20 week scan! We are all very very excited! The whole gang is coming this time and I will try and get a few photos.

Love,

A

Yesterday was SO wonderful I will always remember it! The scan went very well and I had a male sonographer which I have never had before. he was very nice and polite although he did use alot of pressure with the scanner on my tummy.

When we first went in I said 'Please can we bring the children in after you've checked all is okay?'. he said 'Yes, well, how many?' and Mark said 'Only five'. He looked shocked but agreed readily.

The baby was completely upside down which is a new experience for me and was very funny. He/she just wouldn't budge although he/she was dancing and jumping around and has grown so much already. We heard and saw the heartbeat and all the checks were good. The children came in and were silent in wonder at seeing their baby on the screen! patchy was so excited and kept looking from my tumm to the screen.

At one point Mark asked the man was he looking at 'the point of the cerebrum in the brain?' and the man replied ' No, that's the baby's bottom!'. LOLOL We were hysterical and the man was laughing too......This didn't stop mark from continuing his questions though!

I asked if the placenta looked well and he said it looks fine at the moment. I have a special uterine placenta scan at 24 weeks to examine the placenta and blood flow from me to it. It isn't an indicator of abruptions, sadly, nothing is, however it can tell us if it has grown well and is attached at the moment properly and safely. It is on the 4th August so please God I will see the baby again then!

I have had a few more movements which is lovely.

The general pregnancy troubles are still afflicting me- piles, heartburn, acidity, sickness and tiredness!

Thankfully my new printer is up and running and Mark will try and scan in our pictures of the baby- I have about 6, two of the feet, one of the heart and some of the face! Everyone in the car was saying they're sure it's a girl except me who cannot possibly imagine another girl after nearly 13 years!

Love,

Amanda

Thank you for such kind and caring comments. That is so lovely to read.

I have been taking it easy today, ie I am attempting to get as many lessons done as possible as the children so want a 'summer holiday' even though they're not in school! I usually allow them the whole of August off but may be more slack and end in the middle of July. I am not sure as they will have a few weeks off when the baby is born and definitely if my plan comes to fruitition and I go into hospital before the Birth.

My dear friend Emma (Marianna's Mam) came over today to cut the four boy's hair! She trained as a hair dresser years ago but hated the work ethos and so didn't do the exams or complete it. Anyway, what a huge help! She clippered their hair and they look great. I did forget to mention not to take off ALL of poor Samuel's fringe and as he was first he's ended up fringe-less and was devastated. he said he looked bald (to me privately in the shower room whilst sobbing, oh it was embarrassing).

Just after this little episode his saxophone teacher appeared for his lesson so he donned a cap and went to play! He is sounding so fluid now and makes a lovely tune. He seemed sheered up after receiving compliments from his teacher!

I feel pretty sick today but haven't actually vomited! I am now ravenous ALL the time and could quite easily eat all day long. I eat little meals now but very very often. Everyone touches my tummy when they awake and I get lots of rubs throughout the day. I am asked every 10mins or so by Malachy 'How's the baby?'. He is so sweet and funny.

Mark goes away for the night on Weds which I am not looking forward to at all. He is also waiting to hear if he has this new position in the consultancy team.

Love,

Amanda

Hi Amanda,

It's so good to hear all is well with you and your family (the loss of a fringe aside Smile ) and you have had a day of not being sick.

I take my hat off to you ... You must have the patience of a saint. I'm only to happy to part with my bundles of joy every morning and the thought of home schooling would send me to the asylum Smile
